The result was an “open addition” anchored by the wide, frame planters holding the stair to the new patio by Grant and Power Landscaping. the connection to the existing, interior family room features a double-sided, gas fireplace, and transom windows above the new family-room built-ins. Within the new transoms, we installed historic stained glass panels salvaged from The Re-Use Depot to keep the original character of the classic La Grange four-square.
The features of this back porch are seemingly endless — from the built-in sound system, to the drop-down projector and screen; this space rivals most indoor spaces for its ability to entertain. An invaluable space during the stay-at-home era we are now living in, we are proud to have created such usable functionality within the original character of the vintage home. It feels like it is an original part of the 19th century house, but still addresses today’s needs, and then some.
