Whole Home Renovation & Addition in Cary, NC
This Cary, NC renovation and addition is centered around connection. Between spaces. Between levels. And most importantly, around how this family actually lives.
The original home felt segmented and inward facing. The kitchen was tucked away, circulation was awkward, and there was very little relationship to the backyard. Our goal was to open things up while making the home feel intentional, not just bigger.
At the center is a completely reimagined kitchen, anchored by an oversized island and supported by a hidden scullery and pantry. It flows directly into the dining area and vaulted family room, creating a continuous main living space filled with natural light.
We also introduced a strong vertical connection through a new open stair and double-height space. This move brings light deep into the home and creates visual connection between the main level and the upstairs loft.
Upstairs, the primary suite was transformed into a true retreat with a spacious bedroom, custom bath, and dedicated closet. Secondary bedrooms were reorganized, and a new loft adds flexible space for work, reading, or play.
The lower level was redesigned as well, turning previously underutilized space into a full recreation area with direct access to a screened porch. Outside, stacked screened porches and deck spaces extend the home into the landscape and create year-round indoor-outdoor living.
Material selections were kept clean and warm, with natural wood tones, soft whites, and simple detailing that make the home feel both elevated and comfortable.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful design can completely change how a home lives, not just how it looks.
