Full Transformation: Western Springs Whole Home + Exterior Remodel
This Western Springs, IL remodel is a great example of how a home can be transformed both outside and in without losing its original character.
On the exterior, the goal was clear. Modernize the home while working within a defined budget and maintaining the existing stone. The original house blended into a neighborhood of similar 1960s homes, with dated window spacing, shutters, and aging siding. By rethinking the window configurations, introducing a strong contrast palette, and wrapping the home in new siding and trim, the design creates a much more intentional and modern presence.
A key move was simplifying and regrouping the windows. Larger, more consistent openings establish rhythm across the facade, while dark trim and a bold horizontal band help break up the massing and tie the composition together. The result feels clean, updated, and distinct without being out of place in the neighborhood.
Inside, the work goes beyond finishes. The remodel includes meaningful updates to the kitchen, living spaces, and circulation, improving how the home functions day to day. The kitchen was reworked with new cabinetry, appliances, and layout adjustments, while adjacent spaces were refined with updated millwork, flooring, and lighting.
Throughout the home, the approach was consistent. Simplify, modernize, and bring cohesion. Existing elements were carefully evaluated and, where possible, reused or integrated into the new design, keeping the project grounded while still delivering a fresh result.
This project reflects a core LivCo mindset. You do not always need a full addition to dramatically change a home. With the right design moves, even a primarily exterior renovation, paired with targeted interior updates, can completely transform how a home looks and lives.
