This Raleigh home was transformed with a custom wine room addition designed to create a true in-home retreat for entertaining and relaxation. What started as a request for wine storage evolved into a layered, immersive experience built around movement, discovery, and craftsmanship.
The journey begins at an upper-level balcony overlooking the wine room below. From there, a custom curved stair draws you down into the cellar, revealing a dramatic space lined with floor-to-ceiling wine storage and a dedicated tasting area.
Adjacent to the cellar, a cozy grotto-style lounge offers a more intimate setting. This space is accessed through a hidden Murphy door designed as a built-in bookcase, adding a sense of surprise and privacy. Inside, the lounge is anchored by a stone fireplace and surrounded by rich wood paneling and custom millwork, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Every detail was thoughtfully designed and built to balance aesthetics and performance. Integrated lighting highlights the architecture and collections, while climate-conscious design supports proper wine storage. The layout allows for both entertaining and everyday enjoyment, making the space as functional as it is memorable.
From the exterior, the addition was carefully detailed to match the existing home, creating a seamless transition between old and new. Inside, the experience is intentionally distinct, offering a one-of-a-kind destination within the home.
This project highlights how a well-designed addition can go beyond function to create a meaningful, lifestyle-driven space.
